The classic blockbuster Avatar has turned out to be the most illegally copied movie of 2010. It is also the highest-grossing film ever as it earned $2.8 bn (£1.8bn) in the world wide box office.
TorrentFreak said that from one site alone, the James Cameron’s chart-buster, smash hit has been pirated
16.6 million times. He tried hard to fight piracy and thought 3D film making could overcome it but still millions of people copied it from internet.
Kick-Ass, the action movie, came second in this research. It has been downloaded 11.4 million times. The Golden Globe Award winner, Leonardo DiCaprio, an actor and film producer’s Inception is third on the list with 9.7 m.
The runaway success Avatar has broken last year’s records as JJ Abrams’ Star Trek reboot, which was last year’s most pirated movie, was downloaded from internet about 11 m times.
Unfortunately, Matt Damon’s war film, Green Zone, and Kick Ass have not been able to generate huge figures from the box office but have been a massive hit among downloader’s.
Toy Story 3 and Alice in Wonderland are surprisingly in the Top 10 list, which were huge success at the box office while The Hurt Locker, Oscar winning movie, came at number nine.
